Please join us in congratulating LoRayne Logan for being selected as this year’s Charles G. Uram Lifetime Service Award winner!

It was our honor and privilege to nominate LoRayne Logan for the Charles G. Uram Lifetime Service Award.

Passionate. Dedicated. Kind. Generous. Inspirational. Motivational. Hardworking. The depth and breadth of LoRayne’s kindness and generosity is extensive. For the betterment of local individuals, organizations and the community as a whole, LoRayne gives extraordinary gifts of time, the most limited resource, shares her talents and expertise, and contributes generously to fundraising campaigns. LoRayne often takes the lead position in raising funds for organizations, and when recruiting the support of others, like Chuck Uram, she always leads by example, giving a significant personal gift.

Carpenter’s Place (CP) is proud to call LoRayne Logan a strong mission partner. As a Board Director, generous donor, fundraising volunteer, mentor, and ambassador, LoRayne has made a positive impact on CP in the areas of strategic planning, program growth, and financial security. To recognize her impact, LoRayne was among the first to be installed as a member of our Carpenter’s Circle.

LoRayne’s leadership, financial support, and mobilization of volunteers have been a catalyst for the success of significant community initiatives:

  • As co-chair of the Engineering Our Future Campaign, provided critical fundraising leadership that secured $6 million to launch the NIU@RVC Engineering Program; raising over $1 million personally.
  • Chair of the RVC Tech Bus Campaign, making technology and education accessible for all.
  • Championed Tamarack Institute’s work to develop a Collective Impact approach in Rockford

When asked about LoRayne, it is startling how many people reflect the same virtues and values as those used to describe Chuck.  Most often, they include: mentor, friend, dedicated, tireless, selfless, hopeful, a doer, empowers others, an inspiration, passionate, fundraiser, generous donor, and a catalyst. How heart-warming to think of the spirit of Chuck living on through LoRayne and other community leaders who selflessly give a lifetime of service, sharing their time, talent, friendships and resources to make our community a better place for all to become the best they can be through family, faith, work and play.

In the case of LoRayne, even when she is very visible, the angel inside is most often hidden. The closer one becomes to LoRayne, the more her kindness, caring and compassion for those in need is seen. We feel very lucky LoRayne shares her time and talents to help carry out the mission of CP.

The Story Behind the Charles G Uram Lifetime Service Award

The Rockford Cosmopolitan Club was saddened by the death of 40-year member Chuck Uram on December 24, 2004. He was a friend and mentor to many and demonstrated to us the true value that is derived from volunteering and donating to our community.

Chuck will always be remembered by the Rockford community and our Club as the person called upon to lead fund drives. Chuck was a fundraiser/volunteer for Crusader Clinic, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hunger Connection, Lifescape Community Services, Rockford Rescue Mission, Rosecrance Health Network, The MILL, United Way, Wesley Willows, YMCA, Community Foundation of Northern Illinois and others. He is credited with raising over $6 million for these organizations. His efforts earned him the Excalibur Award recognizing his charitable efforts that benefited so many Rockford organizations.
