In-Kind Donation Update Due to COVID

Banner with Attention please. Red Attention please sign icon. Exclamation danger sign. Alert icon.During 2020 we were blessed with an abundance of in-kind clothing donations. Typically, this mountain of clothing would be tackled and sorted fastidiously by our loyal and hardworking volunteers. However, COVID has changed things enormously.

We are very sorry – and disappointed – to share that at this time we are not able to accept donations of clothing and household items. Due to COVID, we’re unable to have enough volunteers on site to accept and sort the donations. Gratefully, through previous donations, our guests ARE having all of their clothing needs met. We have a large inventory of winter wear items (gloves, hats, scarves, etc.) to being given out to anyone who needs them.

While we aren’t accepting clothing and household items, we are still accepting donations of furniture, personal care items, paper products, and cleaning supplies. These items remain to still be in high demand. Here is a list of our most urgent donation needs:

KITCHEN

  • 10 inch heavy-duty paper plates
  • 20 ounce heavy-duty paper bowls
  • 33 gallon garbage bags
  • Individual: creamers, sugar, salt & pepper
  • Coffee
  • Air freshener (neutral scents)

ADULT NEEDS

  • Handwarmers
  • Deodorant (men and women)
  • Disposable razors

Children Needs

  • Diapers: sizes 4, 5, 6
  • Pull ups: boys sizes 5T-6T

Donations can be purchased online from your favorite retailer (Target, Amazon, Sam’s Club, etc.) and shipped directly to CP.

Donation items may be dropped off at Carpenter’s Place:

Other Ways to Give

Provide a Meal for Our Guests

We serve breakfast and lunch to our guests, Monday through Friday, at Carpenter’s Place. We are always looking for help fulfilling our meal time slots. Here too, protocols have changed a bit due to COVID (read the latest guidelines here) but we are still diligently serving the homeless community. We would welcome your help.

We have created a list of frequently asked questions that can serve as a great place to start. Things like, how many guests we serve at each meal, what time to arrive with the food, as well as some of the most popular food items. Here is a link to our open meals for the month of February > view dates.

If you’re interested in providing a meal for our guests, or have additional questions, please contact our Community Engagement Manager, Teresa Lantz, at cpengagement@carpentersplace.org or 815-964-4105 ext 203.

Make a Monetary Donation

Financial donations are very flexible. The needs of people in crisis can change weekly, daily or even hourly, and cash donations allow us to respond to those needs more rapidly. If you would like to give using a credit or debit card, please follow this link to donate now.

You can also mail in a donation. Please make your check or money order to Carpenter’s Place, and mail to:
