Mentor Program
Most of the homeless Guests that visit The
Carpenter's Place (CP) lack a positive support system. CP established a Mentor Program to
match a community volunteer with a Guest who is on his way toward making
constructive changes. Mentors provide invaluable assistance for the support,
accountability, role modeling, and encouragement it is necessary in the beginning stages
of attaining stability from homelessness. Through regular contact, the mentor offers a
listening ear, encouraging words, and the regular praise and nudges people need to
succeed. The consistent, caring presence of a positive role model in the life of a Guest
helps to rebuild trust and self-esteem.
All Guests in the Mentor program are still
under the direct supervision of a CP professional case manager. Mentors work to provide
additional support and friendship to the Guest.
