Supporting The Carpenter's Place Supports The Community

Supporting the Carpenter's Place supports the community as a whole. While success stories often focus on the outcomes of one individual, the true success story of Carpenter's Place involves the entire Rockford community. When an individual leaves the street and begins to lead a productive life, everyone benefits.

The families and employers of individuals who have been helped by the Carpenter's Place regain a relationship. The Rockford community no longer must support chronic, dysfunctional behavior. The judicial system closes outstanding court cases. And the community gains a member who not only receives, but contributes.

A “Social Return on Investment” (SROI)

A primary goal at Carpenter's Place is to provide cost effective services that are efficient and effective in rebuilding lives. Homelessness is costly not only to the individual lives affected, but also to the well-being of the entire community. A recent landmark study by Dr. Culhane of the University of Pennsylvania determined that every homeless person with a mental illness on the streets in NY costs that community over $40,000 annually! This includes the cost of emergency medical, psychiatric, and detox services, police interventions, incarceration and judicial costs, as well as community dollars for shelter beds, food, clothing, and the host of other needed services. The long-term outcome for our Guests at CP is to attain a stability, self-sufficiency, and productivity, thus benefiting the individual and the community as a whole.

"Investments" Welcome!

Financial donations are needed and appreciated at Carpenter's Place.  Donors who desire the increased social return on investment (SROI) that CP can provide may mail their gift.

Funding History

The Carpenter's Place opened in June 2000 through seed money from a private donation. In 2002, the organization initiated a comprehensive Development Plan to meet projected expenses. A major component of this plan is the expansion of a diversified funding base through government grants, foundation and corporate grants, church giving, individual donors, major gifts, planned giving and special events.
